Working in public
Say what I'm going to do, do what I said, say what I did.
I came across an interesting article by Dan Mall where he talks about the benefits of working in public. He goes on to explain a simple framework that he has been using his entire career, "Say, Do, Say":
- 01: Say what I'm going to do.
- 02: Do what I said.
- 03: Say what I did.
It's that simple.
For my past recent posts I've been sharing my progress on Path to Design, but mostly focusing on step 3, "say what I did". I don't share what I want to achieve, instead, at the end of the month I reflect on what I did, take a few screenshots and write a little update.
Dan's article resonated with me and made me want to try and start working in public. Sharing both the good and bad in real time, or as 'real' as can be. I need to figure out my processes, as I'd rather be working on my projects then spending time writing on what I want to do. However, by doing this, I'll be holding myself accountable and documenting my progress. It would be awesome to look back at all my posts and see how I've progressed. Who knows, it may inspire whoever reads these posts.
Since I personally don't have social media, I'd like to share my progress here on this site. I still need to figure out how I can regularly write updates, but I'm going to announce this here to hopefully keep myself accountable.
Let's see how it goes.
